Good medical treatment is similar to insurance, you hope you won't need it, but it's good to have. Panama City has several very good hospitals; once outside of the city the quality may be a bit more questionable.
Here's some information on one of the most reputable hospitals in the capital: HOSPITAL NACIONALIntroduction Hospital Nacional is a modern, private, 80 bed hospital located just two blocks from the U.S. Embassy in the heart of Panama City. The hospital’s reputation for excellence has been gained over a 30-year period. In 1998, a new medical complex was built which boasts the most advanced medical technology and equipment in Central America. The Family Hospital Group of Companies, a U.S. based hospital management firm, provides administration services to Hospital Nacional. Consequently, Hospital Nacional operates under U.S. standards and the treatment that each patient receives is consistent with the U.S. model of health care. Through Hospital Nacional´s relationship with the Family Hospital Group of Companies, it enoys a strategic alliance with the Harvard Medical Faculty of Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. This alliance provides benefits such as Continuing Medical Education opportunities and the ability for doctors to perform observerships in Boston area hospitals. The Medical Staff The hospital’s staff comprises over 160 physicians and specialists in every field of medicine. A vast majority are board certified and have received training in the United States or Western Europe. The International Insurance Office Hospital Nacional established its International Office to assist the foreign community residing, in the Republic of Panama, tourist, visitors, and business travelers with their medical needs. Staffed with bilingual personnel, they maintain lists of bilingual doctors in every specialty to assist the patient and their families. Their goal is to provide all patients with the highest quality medical care available. In addition, Hospital Nacional has contracts with almost all international insurance companies and the International Office’s staff will walk the patients through the entire process. Below are a few of the International Insurance companies that we work with, BlueCross BlueShield International SOS Aetna Allianz Mutual of Omaha Tricare U.S. Armed forces active duty personnel, retirees and veterans residing or visiting the Republic of Panama are eligible for care at Hospital Nacional as TRICARE Standard, Tricare Prime (Latin America), TRICARE-for-Life, and Veterans under the Foreign Medical Program (FMP). They can be seen on an ambulatory basis or as inpatients. Ambulatory services, such as laboratory, radiology and pharmacy, are also available. |
